Reviews from Hell-"One star-Not read it yet"
A book is a collaboration between a reader and writer. Together, we create the picture, the story, the play. I imagine it and you imagine it. Take a minute to tell me how we did. Did you get the story? Leaving your two cents in a review is like leaving a tip.
Take a look at this picture of my reviews in the United Kingdom, and you can see what an author is up against. Most of the time, I get wonderful, thoughtful reviews. But sometimes, you get reviewed by people who haven’t read your book and they throw off your numbers, which then hurts your credibility and ability to make a living writing.
Why do authors ask for reviews? It helps us market and sell books. We don’t want to be starving artists. It’s much easier to justify the years writing if you can make a living from your work. Those years are made up of months, hours, moments and seconds, and it’s easy to second guess or decide to do something else.
Good reviews make me feel good, but this really isn't about my ego. At the end of the day, I can’t promote a book without reviews. I can’t get on the best book promotion web sites without more reviews. Prospective readers won’t buy my book unless they see it has solid reviews. They won’t trust it to be worth the time.
I do have a lot of fantastic reviews already, which I greatly appreciate, but I could use more to help with promotion. As of this post, A Storm of Stories has 32 reviews on Amazon with a 4.6 star rating. That’s excellent. Painting With Fire has 140 reviews with a 3.7 rating, which is also pretty good, considering I got trolled a bit for swearing. (Hey, I like to be authentic.)
How to write a review?
No spoilers! Please for the love of Pete, no spoilers! Why should anyone read the book if they know the ending.
Tell the reader whether you recommend the book and why. It doesn’t have to be long.
If you've read the books and would like to leave your thoughts, please visit Amazon or Goodreads.
Thanks to the thousands of you who have read my books and to the hundreds of you who have taken the time to leave reviews. Here are the links if you want to check them out.
