Painting With Fire at 57th Street Books
I’m happy to say that Painting With Fire is available at 57th Street Books, one of the best bookstores in Chicago. I am really excited and grateful that my book is on their shelves, because I love that place.
I always say brick and mortar bookstores are dangerous, because I can’t walk out of them without spending a small fortune on books, but they are wonderful. There is something about perusing the aisles, trying to discover your latest favorite story, flipping through pages, the feel of a sleek cover under your fingers and being surrounded by thousands of books that is exciting. It’s full of possibility, full of adventure.
I especially love 57th Street Books, because of the way you wind your way through the store in tiny, little room after tiny, little room. I greet my favorite sections like old friends. There’s poetry, literature and mystery. There’s also a human element you can’t beat – kind employees to help you find what you’re looking for and little notes scattered across the books, like little love letters recommending different titles.
I have a Kindle and it’s great, but it’s not the same. I can carry a suitcase full of books with me wherever I go in one hand. I love it when I travel, but it will never replace the joy of going to the bookstore, the joy of discovery, the joy of holding a great story in your hands. So it gave me a little a thrill to discover my book there today.
